HISTORY OF FRENCH ANTI-SEMITISM

Many of those who minimize the current situation blame the problem on a small number of Moslem immigrants from North Africa. But the history of anti-Semitism in France is singular and unique the history of the world. It is not a mere coincidence that anti-Semitism has been so tolerated in this country. Furthermore, the inaction of the government to the current situation - whomever the perpetrators - has been too little.

Ironically enough, the entire state of Israel ultimately owes its existence in no small part to the French. After all, it was from his reporting of the Dreyfuss Affair that Theodore Herzl became convinced of the need for a Jewish State.

We must not forget that it was in Vichy France during World War II that French police voluntarily rounded up and delivered 61,00 Jews to the Nazis. All of these people were murdered in Nazi death camps.

Despite the efforts of the French to revise the history of the Nazi occupation, it is unequivocal that large numbers of French collaborated willingly with the Nazis. Only a small number of French, mostly communists, fought against the Nazis.

Charles de Gaulle, when cutting off support for Israel when they defended themselves in the 1967 war, denounced the Jews "as an elite people, sure of themselves and domineering."

And it was the French government that financed and built the nuclear power plant in Iraq. Does anyone today regret that Israel destroyed it? The French government today still votes against further UN sanctions against Iraq for its refusal of visits from UN inspectors. This is also the French government that refused US planes to use its airspace on the way to bomb Quadaffi's terrorist organization in Libya. And it is the same French government that cut a deal with the PLO in which it allowed the PLO to use it as a base for planning terrorism.

In December of last year, the French ambassador to England referred to Jews as "those people," and Israel as a "shitty little country." Despite the outcry over this outrageous statement, Chirac maintained his support for Ambassador Bernard

Americans are alarmed when they learn that the number one best selling book in France alleged that the United States government staged the entire Pentagon Crash in order to create justification for an invasion of Afghanistan. L'Efroyable Imposture was number one on the Amazon.fr web site, and was number 1 on the Associated Press weekly top 10 for france. The book is listed as non-fiction.
